Fire, post script

So the fire got pretty big as it began to consume the second building. We could feel the heat from it and the interior of our apartment took on a strange orange glow. Luckily it didn’t completely destroy the second building and most of the roof is still intact.
I have to admit I was a bit worried at the close proximity of each of the roofs in this block. It’s easy to see how the fire made it from one building to another so easily and these buildings are all built closely together – most of them at least 300 years old.
It appears to have started when someone set fire to some rubbish in a bin, genius. Fire crews were here most of the night ensuring it was contained. Ironically, it rained all day yesterday, but stopped in the evening. Then, of course it started again this morning. The damage doesn’t look bad from this side.
Luckily, no one was killed. I feel sorry for the people who worked in the building that was destroyed. It was a tech hub and populated by small tech startups so I imagine they had a lot to loose. And there were quite a few people living in the second building and winter is a crap time to be looking for new digs.
Anyway, here are some pictures and below is a short video.
